Conference: «The "Eastern Quarter" of the Roman agglomeration of Bridiers: results of excavations 2021-2022»
This conference will be given by F. Baret (researcher at UMR 7324 CISTERNS-LAT, Tours) to present the results of the third excavation campaign in the neighborhood of Bridiers.
As part of the collective research program of the Ministry of Culture HaGAL - Habitat Groupé Antique de la cité des Lémovices,
a 3rd planned archaeological excavation campaign will take place in July/August 2022 on the ancient site of Bridiers, under the direction of Florian
Baret, lecturer at the University of Tours.
Known since the 19th century, the site has been the subject of many ancient discoveries presented at the Millennium Symposium of La Souterraine. Since 2017, new research is underway. They provide new information on the ancient occupation with the discovery in 2019, by georadar exploration, of an unknown district of the Roman agglomeration. The excavation carried out this summer is part of the exploratory campaign carried out in 2020 and aims to characterize the organization of the neighborhood: habitat, craft activities, water management, etc.
