Hôpital Saint-Antoine
Rue Saint-Antoine, 33430 Bazas
- Gironde
- Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Located on the road to Santiago de Compostela by the Vezelay Way, the Hospital Saint-Antoine was built in the Middle Ages to welcome pilgrims passing through.
It was transformed into a nursing home in 1689 and placed under the tutelage of the Daughters of Charity in 1698\. Bazas being a bishopric, it is the three bishops who will succeed each other in Bazas until the Revolution who will take charge of the hospital. It was thus enlarged in the eighteenth century and provided with a chapel.
This hospice hospital served as a retirement home for the Bazadais until 2009\. Today, it is practically abandoned. Only the renovated apothecary and a meeting room used regularly by the staff of the administration of the new hospital remain.
The Hospice, which includes a main body and a wing located at the corner to the north, the Chapel and the Apothecary have been registered as historical monuments since October 30, 2003.
