The principal patron saint of the church is Our Lady of September, that is, the Nativity of the Virgin. The secondary patron saint is Saint Raffine (or Rafine). According to Canon Durengues, Saint Raffine had her feast day on July 17\. No text can tell who Saint Rafine was. It may be that Saint Rafine is a deformation of Saint Rufine who suffered martyrdom under Diocletian in Seville, with her sister, Saint Justus.
Near the church of Sainte-Raffine de Gaujac existed the Sainte-Raffine spring which was the object of a very old pilgrimage. According to Georges Tholin, the Sainte-Raffine church is the oldest church in Lot-et-Garonne, from the 11th century, and perhaps from the 10th century, because in this church «everything is rudimentary in style, everything accuses the childhood of Romanesque art».
