Tribunal Judiciaire de Lisieux

The Judicial Court of Lisieux will open its doors to the general public on Sunday 18 September 2022 from 09:00 to 17:00 on the occasion of the European Heritage Days. Visitors will discover the Palace of Justice in the company of magistrates and court clerks who will share their daily experience on the functioning and organization of the judicial institution. On the occasion of this day, a trade forum will be organized, in the form of stands, in the hall of steps lost to present the various professions of Justice (magistrate, clerk, lawyer, etc.). The National Police and Gendarmerie will be represented. On this occasion, police officers and gendarmes will expose their missions and present the professional access routes. The Justice Conciliators of Jurisdiction will also hold a booth to explain this alternative dispute resolution method to the general public.
1. Visit of the new court and immersion in the heart of the judicial institution The judicial court of Lisieux is a jurisdiction of the first degree of common law empowered to settle disputes arising between individuals and to condemn violations of the law. On the occasion of a guided tour of the Palace of Justice in the company of the staff of the court taking you in turn in the room of the steps lost, the courtrooms, the offices of the staff, you will discover the organization and the functioning of the Justice. You will learn how a criminal trial takes place, who are the various stakeholders within the justice system and you will benefit from a light on the holding of work in the courts. The guides, magistrates and civil servants, will share with you their daily experience for a complete immersion in the heart of the judicial institution.
The Judicial Court of Lisieux is an industrial vestige converted into an innovative architectural work. It took up residence in October 2020, 11 rue d'Orival near the railway station in a completely renovated building witnessing the Lexovian industrial history, formerly linen spinning mill and Wonder battery manufacturing plant. The history of the building has been preserved thanks to the renovation of the red brick facades and the use of steel materials as illustrated by the totems erected in front of the bay windows of the forecourt, a nod to the factory’s past industrial activity. While the building has retained its original architectural structure, the interior has been completely redesigned to accommodate the various judicial services. The use of wood, a noble reference material, recalls the solemnity of the place while giving a warm atmosphere to the building. The use of glass and floor-to-ceiling windows allows the interior to be flooded with natural light from the roof to the inside of the courtrooms.
The new judicial city brings together in a single place all the courts (court of justice, commercial court and labor court), a guarantee of readability and accessibility for litigants. The staff of the court now enjoy a functional and secure working tool providing comfort and serenity within a modern and bright building. Litigants benefit from a single point of access to all jurisdictions.
Visitors will be able to discover this original building outside of its usual use alongside the judicial staff who will be able to explain to them the functioning of the judicial institution during the guided tour.
2. Forum des métiers de la Justice and stands of the National Police and Gendarmerie
On the occasion of this day, stands of the professions of Justice will be installed in the hall of steps lost allowing young people to obtain information on the role, the missions, the skills sought and the training to access the different professions: magistrate, clerk, lawyer, legal assistant…
The national police and gendarmerie will be represented to discuss their daily functions and missions in the Lexovian jurisdiction. Young people will also have the opportunity to discover the ways of access to the bodies of the various professions of the internal security forces.
3. Justice Conciliation Booth
The Justice conciliators of the jurisdiction will also be present to present this alternative dispute resolution method. Since January 1, 2020, any person confronted with a dispute whose amount is less than €5,000 has the obligation to justify an attempt at conciliation, mediation or participatory procedure before any referral of justice. Conciliators can thus intervene to facilitate the amicable settlement of disputes of daily life in specific areas: relations between landlords and tenants; consumer law; co-ownership problems; disputes between merchants; disputes between persons; neighbourhood disputes; disputes relating to rural law; disputes relating to prudhommale matters.
