One of the most beautiful romantic organs in all of Normandy, the great organ of Notre-Dame de Vimoutiers is, with that of the great hall P. Tchaikovsky of the Moscow Conservatory, the last in 1899 to have been designed by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, the greatest organ builder of the 19th century. This large organ was designed with two buffets, so as to leave the magnificent rose window visible from the nave of the church.
The Friends of the Vimoutiers Organ propose you a presentation of this great organ under the prism of this year’s theme «the Sustainable Heritage»: how has the restoration been conducted to preserve this heritage?

• Historical monument classification: the advantages of the classification to preserve it; restored from September 2017 to May 2019 by the organ builders Robert brothers of Nantes and Pescé brothers & sons of Pau, and inaugurated in September 2019.
• Total dismantling and complete restoration: removal of some modifications made since its creation by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll; use of the professions of organ design, whose know-how is perpetuated thanks to the many organs to maintain, to restore.
• Concerts to bring to life this remarkable organ, as it was once played (without electronic assistance to operate the various games, 30 in Vimoutiers), with renowned organists, to participate in the revitalization of the cultural offer of the Auge Country.
