16 - 18 septembre 2022Passat
BNF

Photo exhibition, carried out in collaboration with the University of Bari, on the history of the origins of the pilgrimage to Saint Michael, of the first Italian shrine at the end of the fifth century, the Monte Gargano located in Puglia, Mont-Saint-Michel through thirteen centuries of history. Works of art illustrate this European movement that for centuries has brought crowds of pilgrims to the Norman shrine of the Archangel. For more than twenty years, the association «Les Chemins du Mont-Saint-Michel» has re-established 10 routes that represent 3.900 km of marked paths, with the edition of practical and heritage guides. Today, the «miquelots», the name of the walkers of Saint-Michel in ancient French, take the path, whether through a taste for hiking, discovering heritage, landscapes, exchanges or spiritual research. Courval is a major site on the Route that starts at Amiens and passes through Rouen, Le Bec-Hellouin, Bernay before continuing on Falaise, Vire then Avranches and Genêts. Its historical, heritage and tourist interest are an asset for this European path that combines roaming and sustainable tourism.

Commanderie Templière de Courval

The preceptory of Courval is a preceptory of Templar origin founded around 1150\. After the fall of the Templars, she returned to the Hospitallers. Until the Revolution, it was a vast agricultural estate but also a stop on the Montois road linking Rouen to Mont-Saint-Michel. Rediscovered in the 1990s, the chapel of the XIIth and XIIIth centuries was classified as Historical Monuments for its interior paintings. The manor of the sixteenth century presents the beautiful characteristics of the renaissance manors of the Virois country. Abandoned for two decades, the Commanderie has just been bought by two architecture and landscape enthusiasts who aim to revive this place important for local history and in the collective imagination.
