Photos of Julien Gracq, the geographical eye
17 et 18 septembre 2022Passat
Antoine Cardi - 2017 - Bibliothèque de Caen

Seventy years after the refusal of the Prix Goncourt, which has made him a writer who is both so secret and so recognized around the world, the Maison Julien Gracq, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Bibliothèque Alexis de Tocqueville de Caen, the University and the City of Angers, have wished to pay homage to the great French writer by revealing a part of his long-standing work in the margins of his literary and geographical work. This is an unpublished selection of fifty photographs among the hundreds of photographs taken by Julien Gracq himself using a Zeiss Ikon Contessa camera. These digitized slides, now kept in the University Library of Angers or in private collections, are an exceptional collection that reflects the curiosity of this Great Road Surveyor and gives us a glimpse of the diverse landscapes of Europe and America. from Normandy to Wiscousin, from Castile to Lazio, via Anjou and the Massif Central». Emmanuel Ruben, Writer, Geographer, Artistic and Literary Director of the Maison Julien Gracq from 2017 to 2021
