Cour Carrée de la dentelle, 61000 Alençon
Heritage collection of the Alençon Media Library in the former Jesuit church. The Alençon Media Library houses a unique written heritage with 728 manuscripts, 26 incunabula and about 40,000 ancient books. The books confiscated during the French Revolution are kept in the old Jesuit church built at the end of the 17th century. This building, remarkable for its so-called imperial structure, served as a library for the École Centrale de l'Orne from 1799\. The nave is separated transversally with on the ground floor a study room and on the floor the heritage room. Remarkable 18th century oak woodwork and four marble columns from the Val-Dieu chartreuse in the Perche embellish the heritage room. Administratively, the municipal library of Alençon was created in 1803.
