Fort-de-France/ Urban Oasis of Biodiversity: Coco Mangrove Scale

We will start with a guided tour of the Coco Ladder mangrove and shared gardens of Volga Beach. We will end with a panel discussion on resilience and biodiversity.

The Bay of Fort-de-France is an ecosystem rich in biodiversity and a history that has made it, over the centuries, a space gained by man and his facilities. Between the forts and batteries of the colonial era and the industrial and tourist facilities, ports and airports, habitat spaces were formed, some of them by the construction of men and women on natural sites.
This is the whole history of the neighbourhoods of working-class and informal settlements, whose concept of urban mangrove” sums up the history and current events. Between the City Centre, Dillon and the Etang Z'Abricots, Volga-Plage is one of the most emblematic areas of the city, for its personality, its problems, and its resilience.
Through its Citizens' Council and its Local Development Agency, Volga has initiated a “resilient territory” project with a programme of actions on habitat, economic, citizenship and biodiversity. Close to the Volga Plage district, there are many maritime areas with a rich fauna and flora. Amon
