Begun in 1844, completed in 1855 under Napoleon III, the hotel of the Minister of Foreign Affairs is representative of the decorative art of the Second Empire mixing elements inspired by Antiquity, the Renaissance and the classical era. A place of remembrance, the hotel is the setting for major international negotiations, such as the 1856 Treaty of Paris, which ended the Crimean War, and the 1919 Versailles Treaty, which concluded the First World War. It was also in this place that Robert Schuman, then Minister of Foreign Affairs, pronounced on 9 May 1950 his famous founding declaration of European unity. Place of residence, the hotel hosted, until 1973, sovereigns and heads of state on an official visit to France. Among these memorable visits, that of the British sovereigns in 1938 which gave rise to important work including the creation of bathrooms, known as the king and queen. True masterpieces of interior architecture, these two pieces that can be visited during Heritage Days are
