Step behind the scenes of the Atelier de Chalcographie de la Rmn-GP and discover the printing secrets of the greatest masterpieces available to museums, institutions and individuals.
Created in 1797, the Chalcography workshop preserves thousands of engraved copper plates deposited by the Louvre Museum. A discovery of the collections is proposed to you in the form of a visit and demonstration around the interpretative prints representing some of the greatest masterpieces of art and contemporary commissions made by the Louvre.

The Ateliers d'Art de la Réunion des musées nationaux — Grand Palais (Rmn-GP) brings together the Louvre’s moulding and chalcography workshops. Created within the Louvre, one year after the opening of the museum in 1794, the Atelier de Moulage was created to produce plaster reproductions to complement the museum’s collections and to feed the French fine arts schools. He later sold his productions to other institutions and individuals in France and abroad. Since its creation, the workshop has enriched its collections with works from the French and European collections to preserve and operate a collection of more than 6,000 models ranging from prehistory to the 20th century. Created in the same period, the chalcography workshop preserves 14,000 engraved copper plates deposited by the Louvre Museum. This collection created since Louis XIV and constantly enriched with new contemporary creations illustrates some of the greatest moments in the history of France and Europe by original engravi
