Excavations undertaken from 1989 to 1992 uncovered the remains of an important medieval abbey complex built in the 7th century. Historical and themed gardens today offer a green setting to this important archaeological site. Founded in the 7th century, Notre-Dame d'Argenteuil Abbey was an important religious centre in Ile-de-France. It is home to Théodrade, Charlemagne’s daughter and then the famous Héloïse, before the monastery came under the dominion of the royal abbey of Saint-Denis. Until the 17th century, it was the centre of the city’s development and influence.
