Gustave Moreau Museum

A unique workshop house in Paris

Installed in the artist’s family house, the museum was entirely furnished by Gustave Moreau (1826-1898). On the first floor, the painter’s apartments, presented as a small sentimental museum where family portraits and works offered by his friends Théodore Chassériau, Eugène Fromentin and Edgar Degas hang. The ground floor as well as the second and third floors occupied by huge workshops, present several hundred paintings, watercolours, and more than four thousand drawings, giving a broad overview of the techniques and subjects of the man who was the undisputed master of French Symbolism. Unique in Paris, the Gustave Moreau Museum has preserved all the magic of its original atmosphere.
