Jean Painlevé. Feet in the water
Jean Painlevé (1902-1989) was an internationally renowned filmmaker who specialized in scientific documentary and film techniques. Associated with the avant-garde, Painlevé uses cinema as an exploration tool to reveal unknown and mysterious aspects of living organisms. He accompanies the viewer with a descriptive and informative account of the subjects studied, while, in most of his films, the images continually alternate between observations on a real scale and analyses on a microscopic scale.
Marine Hugonnier. The cinema in the stomach
At the frontier of documentary and fiction, Marine Hugonnier’s work is an exploration of the politics of the eye. His practice is an attempt to deconstruct the inherent complicity between the gaze and political ideologies. Hugonnier’s practice, which is based on the principle that all artistic creation is an act of subversion, invites us to relearn to look again, proposing to consider another regime of images, another cinema and thus, in the long run, another world.
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the Jeu de Paume will be accessible at the usual rates.
