Free tour of the exhibition «185 years of rail in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. From train to tram»
“Yesterday again, going to Saint-Germain was a journey; today it is no longer a question of getting out of one’s home,” a journalist said at the opening, on August 24, 1837, of the very first passenger train line between Paris and Saint-Germain-en-Laye. In reality, the terminus is in Pecq and it is only ten years later that the atmospheric train allows to climb the heights and that a station appears near the castle. From then on, the rail is imposed in the landscape, crosses and crosses the forest, takes possession of several streets thanks to the tram, then buries with the RER A. The opening of Tram 13 in 2022 is only a new page in a 185-year history that it is important to remember. Visible until November 6, from Wednesday to Sunday from 2pm to 6pm.
