Château de Dampierre

Architectural period: 1683-1690\. Renaissance castle. Built in the hollow of a valley, against the valley of Chevreuse, the ducal house set with sharp moats, occupies the site of a mansion of the thirteenth century built for a cadet of the sires of Chevreuse. Burned during the jacquerie of 1358, this manor was restored under Louis XI for a notable Parisian, Jacques de Thumery, and valued around 1480 by the creation of a pond. Later, the castle is in the line of the dukes of Luynes and Chevreuse. It was altered in 1684, according to the plans of Jules Hardouin-Mansart and André Le Nôtre for Charles Honoré d'Albert de Luynes, duc de Chevreuse, son-in-law of Colbert.
