A public institution of the Ministry of Culture, the mission of the National Book Centre is to support, through various mechanisms and commissions, all the actors of the book chain: authors, publishers, booksellers, librarians, organizers of literary events. It thus actively participates in the influence and creation of the Francophone community. Since 2015, the National Book Centre organizes every summer, Partir en livre [archive], the great book festival for youth, under the impetus of the Ministry of Culture. Going out as a book takes the books out of the shelves to meet the young public on their places and on their leisure time, in order to transmit the pleasure of reading and give back to the book its value of entertainment. The National Book Centre has been located since January 1986 in a superb mansion, the Hôtel d'Avejan, and has a small private garden.
