Maison d'éducation de la Légion d'Honneur

A boarding school for young girls, the Maison d'éducation de la Légion d'honneur welcomes, from the 6th to the 3rd, the descendants of the recipients of the three highest French honours: the Legion of Honour, the Military Medal and the National Order of Merit. Created by Napoleon in 1811, placed since then under the authority of the Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honour, the House of Education is a public educational institution. Their vocation of excellence is combined with the culture of values of the national orders to transmit to the students knowledge and savoir-être.

Entirely rebuilt under Napoleon III, then enveloped by new constructions in 1962, this former convent of the Augustinians houses for nearly two centuries one of the educational houses of the Legion of Honour, boarding school for young girls founded by Napoleon I and attached to the great chancery of the order. It is a public institution and now houses 500 college students - girls, granddaughters and great-granddaughters of Legion of Honour, Military Medal and National Order of Merit. To celebrate the birth of her son, the future Louis XIV, at Saint-Germain on September 5, 1638, Anne of Austria had a convent of the Augustinians built near the chapel of Saint-Fiacre, whose buildings still standing in 1811 were destined by Napoleon I to the boarding school of the orphans of Madame de Lezeau. This orphanage became, under Louis XVIII, in 1816, the third House of Education of the Legion of Honour, after Ecouen and Saint-Denis.
