On May 20, 1890, Vincent van Gogh climbs the stone steps that lead to the house of Doctor Gachet and makes it history. The house and the garden are listed in the Inventory of Historical Monuments. Owned by the Val d'Oise General Council, the house opened its doors to the public on March 30, 2003, the 150th anniversary of the painter’s birth. It offers visitors a sensitive route, a refined evocation of a rich past. The garden, twice painted by Van Gogh, presents some of the emblematic plants of the homeopathic pharmacopoeia scattered among ivy, asters and boxwood. From 1872, when he bought the house in Auvers-sur-Oise, Doctor Gachet drew and graved with Pissarro, Cézanne, Guillaumin… It is in Auvers that Vincent van Gogh realizes his only etching "L'Homme à la pipe", portrait of Doctor Gachet whose General Council acquired a print in 1997\.
