In 1936, an indoor swimming pool was built on this site, with an innovative and experimental system of incineration of household waste (Garchey sinks) to heat the water in the pond. The swimming pool was decommissioned at the end of the 70s, then it was transformed into a theatre: the Théâtre La Piscine. Between 2005 and 2008, the Mayor Georges Siffredi decided to create a Cultural Centre bringing together the Conservatoire de musique et de danse, with studios and an auditorium, as well as the Théâtre La Piscine with a large modular room of 950 seats and a more intimate concert hall (the Footbath). Combining technical performance, comfort and modernity, the Cultural Centre, whose architect is Nicolas Michelin, retains the traces of its history: the rotunda of the facade, the incineration tanks in the foyer of the Theatre (Salle des Machines), the mosaic basin of the Pédiluve...
