The Convent of the Carmelites, occupies a former Hospital founded in 1662 by Anne of Austria, enlarged by Louis XIV, then Louis XVI. Formerly called "La Charité d'Avon" it was built on a plot containing a water mill. Louis XIV, at the request of Queen Anne of Austria, bought it and made a donation to Brother Saint-Jean de Dieu, to build a hospital, with the income from the mill to cover his expenses. The hospital experienced successive enlargements until the revolution, thanks in particular to the generosity of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette.
In 1792 the establishment fell into ruin and the Directory declared its dissolution in 1796\. In 1860 "La Charité d'Avon" was entrusted to the Redemptorists who made it a mission. When they were expelled, they left Charity, which returned to a convent in 1920 with the installation of the Carmelites. During the last war, the Carmelites distinguished themselves with the intervention of Father James to save Jewish children. The episode will be covere
