Musée des Plans-reliefs
Hôtel national des Invalides 75007 Paris
Located on the 4th floor of the courtyard of the Hôtel des Invalides, the Musée des Plans-Reliefs preserves and presents a unique collection in the world: historical models of fortified cities and their surrounding countryside, between the reigns of Louis XIV and Napoleon III, on the same scale (1/600th) and with the same techniques (wood, sand, silk, paper...). These models, tools of military strategy, also constituted an attribute of the prestige of the Heads of State. Today, they are an irreplaceable documentary source on the sites they represent and a valuable educational tool. Through these models (the largest of which reaches 56 m², the visitor discovers a detailed three-dimensional representation of the cities, their buildings, their fortifications and the landscapes in which they fit. You will discover the face of Mont Saint-Michel at the time of Louis XIV or that of Bayonne at the beginning of the 19th century.
