association ARHYME

Created in 2003 by Jean Ménard, the ARHYME (association for the rehabilitation of the hydraulic network of the royal domain of Meudon) protects, maintains and enhances this remarkable heritage of the 17th century.
On 2,000 ha of the Meudon-Vélizy plateau, 50 km of channels, 4.5 km of underground aqueducts, large water storage tanks were buried (and preserved) in the forest before being rediscovered from the original plans that were kept in the National Archives.

The Observatory’s crossroads is located in the forest, near the Château Neuf, which is covered by the dome housing the Observatory’s astronomical telescope. It is on the Royal road, used by Louis XIV to come to the castle of Meudon.
