The presence of Masonic lodges in the city of the Sun King is attested since 1744.
Since 1892, the Lodge of 6 Rue Bailly in Versailles has been home to Masonic works according to a method that allows everyone to express themselves freely according to the principles of mutual tolerance, respect for others and self, absolute freedom of conscience.
The association is motivated by two main principles: the respect of a tradition, inherited from the founders of Freemasonry, and the search for progress for the improvement of Man and Society.

The Masonic Temple of the Grand Orient of France in Versailles hosts the work of the "Brothers" and "Sisters" of the Grand Orient and the Grand Loge Féminine de France. It is located in the former stables of the Hotel de Soubise located in the old quarter of Versailles, and since 1892 houses the work of the Versaillais Freemasons. It shows a symbolic representation of the Temple of Solomon in the form of allegories such as the sun, the moon, the starry vault, the paved mosaic, and a luminous delta of the eighteenth century. The presence of masonic lodges in the city of the Sun King has been documented since 1744 (in fact at the time of his great-grandson Louis XV). But the "masonry", in the sense that gentlemen could assemble "freely" and were "accepted" by tradesmen, is older. Non-operative masonry lodges were established in Scotland at the end of the 16th century. Masonry first developed in the cosmopolitan environments of maritime trade, science and aristocracy.
