The Magny le Hongre wash-house is perhaps the most beautiful wash-house in Val d'Europe, it was restored in 1995. The main pool, which is accessed through two wooden doors, is surrounded by cobblestones. A second basin, in a semi-circle, completes the set.
A niche has been dug into a wall, it is occupied by a statue of Saint Geneviève made by the peace workshop.
The existence of a fountain in this same place is attested to in the 11th century. Known as supernatural, it was the object of many pilgrimages until 1880 that took place on January 3 (Saint Geneviève’s day).
Men, women, children and especially the sick came to purify their bodies and heal their diseases.
It is this same fountain that feeds the Lavoir today.
Sainte-Geneviève (422-502) became the patron saint of Magny le Hongre, formerly known as Magny Sainte-Geneviève.
Today, the Honduran association «Fontaine Sainte-Geneviève» is in charge of its maintenance and development, especially during the European Heritage Days.
