Exhibition Freed From Designer
At the conjunction of the graphic universes of Félicité Landrivon (also under Brigade Cynophile) and Roxanne Maillet, the exhibition Freed from Designer is designed from the back and forth between the graphic designers, their sources of inspiration, their respective previous work and derivatives produced for the occasion of the exhibition. These sets of documents and graphic objects tend to recreate within MABA a vernacular and domestic environment in which the various objects and elements (t-shirts, posters, magazines, packaging, etc.) play with the archetypes of a certain type of design, ordinary and daily.
These works by the two graphic artists who work from the same game of quotation, misappropriation and collage also assume a certain part of humor and the use of banal or unconventional forms.
Their close relationship to pop culture and music is played even in the title in the form of a wink to a Gala song. Freed from Designer is an invitation to free oneself from the norms and diktats (sometimes rigid) of graphic design and to create fluid forms and glyphs, without hierarchy between genres and styles.
Thus, Freed from Designer mixes real control objects, derivative objects created for the exhibition and recovered furniture elements, orchestrating a confusion between the real and the fictional and reaffirms the role of graphic designers in the design of narrative environments.
