Founded in 1836, the main purpose of the Société des Antiquaires de Picardie is to study the art and history of Picardy and the Picardy-speaking countries. Since 1838, she has published research and discoveries in her collections of «Memoirs» and «Bulletins», a collective work of irreplaceable value. Recognized as a public utility in 1851, it was at the origin of the construction of the current Picardie Museum, which it donated, with its archaeological collections, to the Town of Amiens in 1869. On the other hand, this scholarly society still occupies in the monument the two spaces that make up its historic seat: the room known as the “Sessions” room, as well as a rich library of about 80,000 books, prints and manuscripts.
