A former episcopal palace, the Saint-Omer courthouse is a manifesto advocating the adoption of French architectural practices in the 18th century. Symbols are omnipresent in its setting, participating in the staging of justice. A former episcopal residence, the Palis de Justice was completed in 1801 in the classical style and to the glory of the Sun King whose motto "Nec Pluribus impar" (superior to all) adorns the pediment of the facade. It became the Palace of Justice in 1795 during the French Revolution.
