By going to the square of the church of Notre-Dame d'Aubenton, on the reception stand, you will receive a map and directions allowing you to walk through alleys full of history, to walk along the Chimay Tower and the Daniel Tower, remains of the old fortifications. An easy itinerary prompts you to go up to the cemetery to admire the statue of Lieutenant Bouxin and, from there, to reach the Chemin des Remparts... and its facilities in sports and relaxation.
But in accompanied circuit, it is Francis Kalvas who will transmit to you his passion of places and their history, small or large, who will also accompany you in the visit of the underground or the bell tower...

À propos du lieu

Aubenton was home to a garrison in the Gallo-Roman period. The only remains are the elevations of the Chemin des Remparts. Later, from the 1348 enclosure, which had 3 gates and 6 to 8 towers, there are only two towers left. The alleys: Moustier alley, Sac alley, Sang alley, all lined with high limestone walls from the old fortifications. These are names that evoke the tragic episodes of the wars, from the 14th to the 16th century. They will be discovered, like the banks of the Ton, along with many other things, by participating in the walking tours organized and commented by Francis Kalvas, president of the association "Hikes in Thiérache", and storyteller. A plunge into history, filled with anecdotes...
