Built at the beginning of the 13th century, the belfry of Abbeville is one of the oldest in France. Its construction symbolized the new municipal power and its independence from seigneurial and religious powers. The heart of Abbeville Town Hall for several centuries, it was severely hit by the bombing of May 1940. The belfry was restored and incorporated in 1954 into the reconstruction of the Boucher-de-Reperthes museum.
