Discover the results of the archaeological study of the Inrap at the castle: Romanesque tower, remarkable heritage of the 12th and 13th centuries, and unpublished burial. Not to be missed!

A team of Inrap archaeologists carried out an archaeological study in 2021 ahead of a project to redevelop the Château de Cons-la-Grandville and the adjoining cemetery. Important archaeological discoveries were made on the site during this week of intervention. Archaeologists have pointed out the dating of the Romanesque tower, uncovered original decorations and a remarkable architectural heritage of the 12th and 13th centuries.
In parallel, an exploration in the cemetery revealed an unexpected burial related to Napoleonic history.
Jean-Denis Laffite, archaeologist at Inrap, will provide guided tours of the castle and the cemetery on Sunday 18 September from 2pm to 6pm, continuously.
Practical information: this Inrap event is part of the European Heritage Days programme at the Château et parc de Cons-la-Grandville. The entrance on this site is paid (usual rate), discover the entrance rates of the castle by clicking here.

The castle of Cons-la-Grandville is one of centres of Renaissance and of sculpture of this time(period) in Lorraine. Built on a rocky headland at the heart of the village of Cons-la-Grandville, on river banks Chiers, the current castle rests(bases) on the foundations of a first fortified castle established by Dudon de Cons, fellow traveller of Godefroy of Broth during the first crusade (1096). Since this time(period) and untill today, this monument did not cease being transformed, prettified, restored.
