Musée de la maison de la dernière cartouche
12 avenue de la dernière cartouche, 08140 Bazeilles
Entering the Last Cartridge House means being immersed in an exceptional place that has kept its authentic and moving character. It was indeed in this former inn that the glorious battle took place that made him give his name.
The day after the fighting, the Maison de la Dernière Cartouche becomes a museum that presents the battle and the memories of the French and Bavarian fighters, but also the sufferings of the village and its inhabitants. The Bazeillais paid a heavy price in fact to this war of 1870 which brings together for the first time all the German states united to Prussia (William I) against France (Napoleon III).
The naval troops who fought at Bazeilles fought a particularly fierce battle, which became emblematic of their valour and their desire to fulfill the supreme sacrifice of the mission entrusted to them.
In two days of fierce fighting, 2655 porpoises and bigors and nearly 5,000 Bavarian soldiers fell at Bazeilles.
