Located in the heart of the Pays du Saintois, the castle of Etreval is an original monument and a unique witness of the first Renaissance Lorraine.
A composite building, it presents both medieval and gothic reminiscences, with its gargoyle alignment and defensive towers that resemble a stronghold, and an Italianate architectural vocabulary with its two rows of round-headed columns.Work on the Tuscan marquees.
Erected in 1533 by François de Tavagny, a young Milanese cavalcader who entered the service of Duke Antoine de Lorraine after the Battle of Marignan, the castle of Etreval then passed into the hands of the families of Gournay and Tervenus who occupied each of the eminent functions at the ducal court. Owned by the Martin family since 1841, this ensemble has been rediscovering its past luster for a decade.
