From the extraction of ore to its transformation into an iron object of our daily lives, enjoy several discovery activities!

Friday is for school students only.
Saturday and Sunday are on a similar program, with stands «to understand», from the extraction of the ore to the finished object in iron, (knife, nail, fence, eiffel tower...) by demonstration workshops, which are also participatory.
Shows are also organized, with horses (knights tournaments, educational tents), but also theater, children’s stories, music with local groups. You can also enjoy photo exhibitions on the mine and the factory whose 150th anniversary is being celebrated. In the evening, a show of fire closes the day of Saturday and Sunday. A fireworks display is planned on Saturday (weather permitting).

À propos du lieu

Carreau de la Mine
Rue du Val de Fer, 54230 Neuves-Maisons
  • Meurthe-et-Moselle
  • Grand Est
Located in the green natural amphitheatre of the Hague Forest, the 5 ha mining site, operated from 1874 to 1968, includes 3 terraces, viewpoints with orientation tables, descriptive panels, and the historic monument Zublin, with a helical spiral where the small sedans ran. It dominates the lower deck, and on the upper deck visitors enter the 1,000-metre-long underground circuit, where guides and geologists reveal the evolutionary techniques of iron ore mining, their experiences, their emotions, by dialoguing with the groups.
Reconstruction on the square of a medieval village of iron transformation.
