The economic policy and manufacturer of Colbert gives birth(rise) to the Royal Factories in different sectors of industry. Letters patent granted(tuned) by the King, confer on them a title and a number of privileges. Till the beginning of the XVIIth century did not exist, in France, of Factories forging blades for weapons with a blade. The French fourbisseurs imported the main part of their supplies in blades of Solingen (Westphalia). Louis XV decides to remedy it. The Secretary of State for War, old(former) Treasurer of Alsace, Nicolas Prosper Bauyn d' Angervilliers is in charge of establishing a factory of white weapons in the Kingdom of France, not to depend any more on Solingen for armed supply. On July 15th, 1730, the King issues letters patent for the establishment of a royal Factory of Weapons with a blade in Alsace, for a duration of 30 years, for troops in the service(department) of the King to Henry Anthès who exploits(runs) and manages different smithy in High - Alsace (current Haut-Rhin) and on whom the choice(selection) of the site and the installation of the establishment fall. He(It) chooses the Valley of Ehn upstream of Obernai for diverse reasons.
The site allows the discovery of the atmosphere of the previous workshops(studios), process techniques, of an unique(only) collection of weapons with a blade, of tools and of breast-plates in the House of the factory (museum), of a demonstration of smithy, as well as of the village with its old(former) buildings(ships) and its hydraulic network and old(former) buildings(ships).
