The library(bookcase) Carnegie was built after the World War I to shelter the important collections of the local library(bookcase), opened in 1818 in the building(ship) of the Town hall, but burnt down on May 3rd, 1917\. Thanks to the exceptional 200 000-dollar sponsorship offered by Subsidy(Endowment) Carnegie for International Peace, the construction of a new library(bookcase) is confided(entrusted) to the Reims architect Max Sainsaulieu (1870-1953). He(It) appealed to the big(great) names of decorative arts to conceive(design) the big(great) wrought iron front-door (establishments Schwartz-Haumont), the bas-reliefs of the front wall(pediment) (Edward Sediey), mosaics (In. Biret), stained-glass windows (Jacques Gruber and Jacques Simon) and the flower pastels adorning the reading room (Madeleine Lacour). Inaugurated in 1928, this splendid Art deco building(ship) was registered in conformance with(for) historic monuments in 1983\. After important works of rehabilitation and of restoration(catering), the library(bookcase) Carnegie opened again its doors to the public in 2005\. She(It) found so her(its) missions of origin: preservation and promotion(valuation) of the patrimonial and local collections.
