The chapel was built in 1683 and expanded in 1772\. The Marlenberg Shrine is distinguished by a slate bulb roof. It offers views of the plain of Alsace, up to the Strasbourg Cathedral. It occupies the site of an oratory built, according to legend, in the fourteenth century, following the vow made to the Virgin by three brothers caught in a storm during a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
To access it, a staircase is bordered by 7 small oratories: a fine example of Alsatian folk art in the 18th century, restored in 2013\. Throughout its history, the chapel stands out as a pilgrimage goal under the title: Chapel of the Cross, the Sorrowful Virgin and the fourteen auxiliary saints.
