Schools, church, grocery store, hairdresser, heating, sewer, there was nothing missing in City 14 of Marckolsheim that was to be as welcoming as possible. Built in 1957 by EDF to house its workers who came to build the Grand Canal d'Alsace, it was named after EDF’s 14th construction site. At the height of the activity, the village welcomed up to 3,800 people from 17 nationalities.
Dismantled in 1968, the city is now converted by the town into a walking trail, with signs presenting the natural environment.
