Bibliothèque municipale
3 Rue François Bachimont, 10400 Nogent-sur-Seine
The city of Nogent-sur-Seine has one of the oldest municipal libraries in the Aube department, since it was created in 1837\. The service was first installed on the first floor in the Hotel de Valville, which was then also home to the Hotel de Ville. The City Secretaries acted as “librarians”. In 1904, the library was moved to the city’s art and history museum, which had been opened two years earlier thanks to donations from sculptors Alfred Boucher and Paul Dubois. It becomes a “popular library”.
After the war, she returned to the Hotel de Valville until the 1990s. In 1994, the library, no longer meeting the needs of users in terms of public reading and consultation of old collections, moved with its custom-made furniture to the Boeswillwald Space (former property of a family of artists of Alsatian origin). This equipment, arranged on three levels and embellished with a nice park, also hosts the School of Music of Nogentais on the second floor.
