Emblematic of Tours, the history of the Lefroid house dates back to the very beginning of the 20th century. Taking advantage of the economic and tourist development generated by the construction of the railway station, the Lefroid brothers developed a business specializing in the manufacture and sale of furniture. Building on its success, the trade began a transition in 1928 to become a real department store, whose new facade rue de Bordeaux (labeled Remarkable Heritage of the twentieth century), inaugurated on this occasion, is a fine example of Art Deco architecture. Affiliated in 1964 to the Printemps purchasing centre, the store finally adopted the brand in 1984 while maintaining its independence. The Lefroid family has left a lasting mark on Touraine architecture, as it is also one of the owners of the Grand Passage.
