Of the four churches in the city, only the latter still exists. During the frequent invasions during the wars, the inhabitants of the walled enclosure and outside could attend the services inside this chapel. The 12th century chapel of the castle was enlarged in the 16th century to become the church of Saint-Lubin which adjoins the castle. The numerous ogival bays open in the Gothic part of the building are decorated with stained glass windows made by the Lorin workshops, the oldest Chartrain master glassmaker; they date from the second half of the 19th century. Besides the presence of the bishops of Chartres, the church of Pontgouin is marked by the memory of a child of the country, who would become Monsignor Cardinal Pius.
