Commented presentation of the "litre seigneuriale des Turpin de Crissé", visit and presentation of "Catherine du Bellay’s child"
On the south wall of the church, partially erased during the troubled period of the Revolution, but still visible, are the remains of the seigneurial liter of the Turpin de Crissé. The family coat of arms, now bleached, is presented in a rhombus held by a lion and an ochre-coloured griffin. It was initially «lozenged with faces and money», as can be found in the sacristy of the church.
This decor signals and honors the Turpin family and its seigneurial lineage. Their memory is thus ensured by a wall painting, now degraded, representing the coat of arms of the Turpin and depicting the history of the August family.
In a tuffeau in which traces of paint persist, framed by the Turpin’s weapons, the rimmed epitaph of Katherine is still perfectly legible in this 21st century:
