association du patrimoine Pont de Ruan

Come and discover the rich heritage of Rotomagos, today Ruan Bridge.
You will learn that just after the revolution, Bonaparte First Consul ordered the reconstruction of the bridge.
Start with a tour of the mills that once made flours, electricity but also ice bread!
You will then walk in the village to discover its heritage around its church dating from 444. You will see old manuscripts from the 1500’s in the church.
If you have a toothache, you can make an offering at the Oratory of Saint Apolline, patron saint of dentists.
In the town and outside the perimeter of the village, you will discover the manor of Vonnes dear to Balzac that renamed it Clochegroude, the priory of Relay and you will walk on the Ferré road, the old Roman road «Via Aquitania» that led our ancestors to Burdigala (Bordeaux).
We will welcome you at the Bistrot Moulins Lambert associative café for some «snacks» and refreshments.

Pont-de-Ruan is a village more than two thousand years old and historically crossed by the Roman road that led merchants, pilgrims and armies from Paris to Poitiers and Bordeaux. Located on the Indre, Pont-de-Ruan was a passing ford from which it takes its name: Pons Rotomagos. In 444, Saint Brice Bishop of Tours built the first building which is the present church. Historic site of passages, the village was crossed successively by the Roman legions, the barbarians, the Moors; but also probably by King Francis I, and certainly by Honoré de Balzac who speaks of the village in his novel "The Lys in the Valley".
