Contrary to what the passerby might think at first glance, the Hôtel des Postes is a recent building, inaugurated in 1926\. The illusion persists because the architect Henri Tarlier has multiplied the quotations to the famous Gothic monuments of Bourges, from the hotel Jacques Coeur to the hotel des Echevins (today Estève museum). In the adjacent square stands the statue of King Louis XI, born in Bourges in 1423 and founder of the first French postal system.
