The conservatory is located in an exceptional setting: the cloister of the Cordeliers. The construction of the building will begin in 1569 and will be completed in 1586\. It then included a church and the cloister with Tuscan columns, grouping together a library, a dormitory with cells and a refectory. During the revolution, the chapel was used by the assembly of the three Orders for the election of deputies to the Estates General of 1789\. In 1791, the convent, nationalized, is intended for the services of the department, then in 1795 the buildings become central school then secondary school and finally are annexed to the new Lycée Marceau built between 1884 and 1887\. Today there remains a fragment of the north wall of the building still visible in the cloister. All the buildings have been included in the supplementary inventory of Historical Monuments since 1959 and 1979.
