Forteresse de Montbazon
12 rue du Château 37250 Montbazon
- Indre-et-Loire
- Centre-Val de Loire
The fortress of Montbazon was built from 991 on top of a rocky outcrop dominating the course of the Indre. The monks of Cormery complained to the king of France about the behaviour of Foulque III Nerra who had seized the place. At first he built a castral clod, a wooden keep on a mound of earth, the stone keep will come only a little later. This fortified complex is one of the oldest feudal castles in France.
