The house of Louis Pasteur in Arbois is an absolutely unique heritage place, still inhabited by the presence of the scientist. Preserved in the state, the house remained as Louis Pasteur knew it, it plunges the visitor into the framework of life and work of the scientist.
Listed as a Historical Monument, the Louis Pasteur House in Arbois received the “Maisons des Illustres” label from the Ministry of Culture and Communication at the same time as Dole’s birthplace in 2011.
Pasteur came back to this house in Arbois, the only one he owned. From his father’s modest tannery, where he spent his childhood, little remains, because Louis Pasteur transformed this house into his «Château de la Cuisance», and furnished it to his liking. In this house where he returned every year, Pasteur joined the useful to the pleasant: surrounded by his family and friends in the living room or in the dining room, he could devote himself to his research in his private laboratory.
