Since the creation of the Municipal Library in 1824, literary creation has been harmoniously linked to Chalon’s cultural heritage. The city, with the support of partner bookshops, has therefore chosen the European Heritage Days and a recently restored historic site, the cloister of the Cathedral of Saint Vincent, in the heart of thecity, to make discover or rediscover to the public authors coming from all the region to present their works and meet visitors for a discussion or a dedication. At the rendezvous: fiction for children and adults, documentaries in all fields of knowledge, contemporary bibliophilia, and even some old books proposed by a specialized bookseller.

The cloister of the canons of the Saint-Vincent cathedral is the only cloister adjoining a cathedral preserved in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Its peripheral walls could be dated around the year one thousand, which makes it even more exceptional. Three wings with bays with trefoil arches date from the 14th century and were vaulted with warheads in the 15th century. The north wing is a contemporary reconstruction of a gallery that disappeared in the 19th century. In the spirit of the existing medieval and 19th century capitals, it is decorated with sculptures on capitals in Saint-Marc stone (Burgundy limestone) made by the sculptor Laetitia de Bazelaire evoking animals, the virtues, or the five senses.
