A Romanesque church in the heart of the old town

A building that has been enriched over the centuries by two side chapels and a nave. In the 19th century, the roof of the bell tower was redone in glazed tiles. Finally the year 1991 will be marked by the addition of sculptures adorning the tympanum of the church, made by Misters Griot father and son. They represent Saint Peter, Mary Magdalene and Christ in Majesty.

Romance church located right in the centre of the old(former) market town, this building grew rich of several reorganisations in the course of the centuries. A first place of worship is certified in the year 968, dedicated in Saint-Peter. It is that in the XVIth century when the term of church Saint-Madeleine is given it. It will become later one of the seven cathédrantes churches of the diocese of Mâcon. At the beginning of the XVIIth century, two side chapels come supplement the church. In the XIXth century, new reorganisations come into the world: in 1837, the roofing of the bell tower is redone in glazed tiles. Next year, a new chapel to the building, then a last one in 1864 are added. In 1852, the nave is extended by the construction of a narthex with floor training(forming) forum(stand), realised by the architect Berthier. Year 1991 will be marked by the realisation of the tympanum of the church, sculpted by sirs griot father and son(sons,thread). Inspired by those of the Middle Ages, he represents Saint-Peter, Marie-Madeleine and the Christ in glory.
