Slightly away from the Old Town, the House of the Gallery is sometimes called the Holy Source of the Order of the Visitation. It was in this house that Francis de Sales and Jeanne de Chantal founded the Order of the Visitation in 1610.
Originally, the house of the gallery is a pleasure home whose name comes from the closed gallery allowing to join the house to a meadow located on the edge of the lake. In 1610, it was acquired by Francis de Sales and Jeanne de Chantal to install the first Visitandine nuns. The cellar was then transformed into a chapel. In 1612, the house became too small. The nuns then settled inside the city walls. Incorporated into the second monastery when it was built in 1634, the house remained the property of the Visitandines until the end of the 18th century. In 1855, it was acquired by the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
